The following are photos of current resident horses living at the Rescue retirement and care center. These horses represent a wide range of breeds, sizes, colors, experience, backgrounds, and include both mares and geldings.
Some were brought by their owners to make certain they were in a safe place. Others are given to the Rescue to avoid going to the rendering plant, while others had become extra mouths to feed beyond the owner’s capacity. But not all the horses who come to the Rescue are so lucky. Many come starving, ribs and hip bones sticking out against their skin. Some have feet problems, while others barely have the strength to stand. The Rescue takes in these horses and tries to set things right, first by showing the horses that they can trust us, and then giving them the care and attention that they deserve.
The horses give much love, loyalty and wisdom to volunteers and visitors alike. They have all “paid their dues” and have earned the right to a secure and happy life.
They give us cause to ponder the wonder of the horse-
